Split AC Units

Explore Split Unit Air Conditioners

How it works?

A split unit AC consists of two main components: an indoor unit and an outdoor unit. The indoor unit contains the evaporator coil and the air filter, while the outdoor unit houses the compressor, the condenser coil, and the fan. The two units are connected by refrigerant lines, which circulate refrigerant between them. When the AC is turned on, the compressor in the outdoor unit pumps refrigerant to the indoor unit, where it absorbs heat from the room's air. The cooled air is then blown back into the room.

Who first invented this unit?

The split unit AC was first invented by Japanese company Daikin in 1971.

Major producers and brands for this unit?

Some major producers and brands of split unit ACs include Daikin, Mitsubishi, Fujitsu, LG, Samsung, Carrier, and Trane.

Major preventive and corrective maintenance activities done on this unit

Some major preventive and corrective maintenance activities for split unit ACs include cleaning or replacing the air filter, cleaning the evaporator and condenser coils, checking refrigerant levels, inspecting electrical connections and controls, and lubricating moving parts.

The cost of a split unit AC can vary widely depending on factors such as brand, capacity, and features. Generally, prices range from a few hundred dollars for a basic unit to several thousand dollars for a high-end model.

Capacities range

Split unit ACs come in a wide range of capacities, typically measured in BTUs (British Thermal Units) per hour. Capacities can range from around 6,000 BTUs for a small room to over 40,000 BTUs for a large commercial space.

Advantages and disadvantages

Advantages of split unit ACs include their quiet operation, energy efficiency, and ability to cool individual rooms or zones. Disadvantages include their higher cost compared to window units and the need for professional installation.

Where it is used mostly?

Split unit ACs are commonly used in residential and commercial settings where central air conditioning systems may not be practical or cost-effective, such as apartments, small offices, and server rooms. They are also popular in areas with hot climates where cooling is needed year-round.
